  Skydiving Video as a Skill

Rob Stevenson films Team Elan who are sponsored by Skydive Spain

Shooting skydiving videos for the general public, for your team mates or simply for yourself is a skill. Dave Butterell has a lot of experience and has decided to put together this course.

Its not just about being familiar with your kit, its also about getting the most from your subject. For example, getting happy smiles for a tandem customer, knowing where the sun to keep it behind you, what type of exit to use for your 4-way team, etc.

There is so much to learn!

  Camera Flying Courses
Camera man filming a tandem skydiveCamera Flying is a great skill to learn. It is requires a lot of skill and dedication to master. A good camera person can shoot photos as well as edit video for their customers. Good video footage makes their skydiving team look good whilst making the videographer invisible.

David Butterell has setup a camera skydiving course for UK jumpers wanting to learn more about the art of video. The content of the course will work on skills for both FS and Tandem filming and will include theory classes as well as actual jumps. A second camera, possibly made up of those on the course, will film the primary cameraperson to allow a debrief afterwards.

bullet Overview of the course and introductory briefing to camera flying.
bullet Official requirements and recognised experience.
bullet Introduction to the equipment.
bullet Safety aspects of camera flying.
bullet Introduction to the disciplines and the skills required for fun jumping/video logbook, FS filming, tandem filming, additional student filming and still photography
bullet Coached videoed jumps will include a pre-jump briefing to focus on the specific elements of the discipline and in-air footage of the exit and freefall. There will then be a post-jump debrief with improvement techniques learning points.
